While I think MatPat, while he can be annoying, is ultimately harmless and I agree with the thesis of this video, I gotta say. This video kinda sucks. It's full of bad faith arguments and strawmanning. Also, you're definitely not using the term LGBTQ properly. "Curing someone of their LGBTQ" isn't a proper sentence. I get that you meant well with this video. I hope you continue making videos, but I hope you put more effort into how you approach certain topics.

I know a few people who have what I would describe as an "irrational hatred" of MatPat. I'm no superfan of Game Theory but I do get entertained by it. I do disagree with his findings sometimes. Other times I find his thoughts to be a new perspective. I think the best thing Game Theory (and Film Theory) does is teach the viewers to consider all perspectives when evaluating information. The most important lesson is Critical Thinking. Something these Twitter chuds clearly need to learn.

Hi I think this video is trying to start an interesting conversation but I also think that you saw someone on twitter make poor arguments attacking matpat and based off that. I believe it would be mich more effective if you try to debunk more well put together arguments. I am one of those people who used to be fan of matpat in his early days but has since lost interest in his content and truly believe that some things he has said is harmful to people. Does that make him a shit human being and everything he does is trash? No, of course not! I heard he raised millions for charity, that's awesome! But you can't just focus on all the good he put out in the world by using his influence and dismissing harmful things he has done using that same influence. Anyway with your first point being about the pyros video. You bring up that the argument is stupid and because this is about the gender of a fictional character. So why does it matter if they are non binary or cis? Well, then what is the point of that theory then? What is even the point of trying to deduct someones gender? And he also used some things that are just stereotypes and harms trans people. Not to even mention that the possibility of non binary rep is always great to help people become more accepting of non cis identities. You are right about the claims of the hospital he raised money for having an anti queer agenda. That's stupid. He raised money for charity, that's always good. The thing that I have seen about the fake boob video, which is basically a 12 minute video about him examing how to spot fake boobs and applying that to video games characters is that matpats target audience is younger and a lot of people feel uncomfortable or find it creepy that he talks about sexual stuff or borderline sexual stuff. Even making plenty of boob jokes. And again you question why it even matters because they are fictional characters, then what is even the point of a theory? It matters because we care about these characters, games and media which starts to affect us. The main criticism of Matpat that I have seen is that he is reinforcing dangerous stereotypes about mental illness and being transphobic either by misgendering canon non cis characters or making transphobic jokes and refusing to listen to the trans community about it. If I remember correctly he had to be corrected by a cis co worker in order to somewhat apologise. If you want to check out some better written arguments check out the tumblr blog fuckmatpat who usually provide timestamps and the name of the video they use in their arguments. They also have the general attitude of wanting for him to recognise and learn from his past mistakes rather than cancelling him. Despite the quite agressive blog name. They also bring up lots of other points that I don't have time to write about here. I don't know how to put this under a read more, might edit this later when I figure that out. Would really like to see a video of yours responding to more nuanced arguments about this because I believe it's an important discussion to be had.
