As a pathological liar myself, I know one when I see one. I have admittedly told some pretty disturbing lies about myself to some of the people closest to me. Lies that, if ever found out, would absolutely ruin my life. The majority of my relationships were built on lies. It’s like I subconsciously think I have to make myself more interesting for people to like me. I’m not proud of it, in fact it stresses me out every day. I don’t know why I do it, but it’s something that absolutely runs in my family like a mental illness or something. My grandfather was a pathological liar, he used to tell stories at dinner that were totally fabricated, about situations that we were ALL present for and knew he was lying, but nobody had the balls to correct him I guess. My aunt faked having stomach cancer for ten years but never lost her hair, never had surgery or doctors appts that we could attend with her. Sorry but... Nobody has cancer for ten years without dying or getting better at some point. But she still has it apparently and is gonna die any day now. My other aunt has faked a disability for over thirty years from a car accident that never happened and even walks with a cane and fakes a limp. Scams the gov’t into giving her disability money, scams doctors into giving her pain meds.. etc. She’ll even tell you about her horrific car accident and how a drunk driver hit her and totaled her Buick. (I think at some point she forgot her broke down Buick has been parked in the field behind my dads shop for a decade because the transmission failed and he used it for parts. There was no accident.) It’s terrifying, but I do it without even realizing I’m doing it. And the scariest part is that I CONVINCE MYSELF ITS TRUE. Even when I’m HOME ALONE I have thoughts and perform actions that follow the narrative of a major lie I’ve told. I believe that’s what Lillee Jean and her mother are doing. Her mother is probably a pathological liar and even though she knows lillee is lying about things like her boyfriend and her social media following, she’s convinced herself they’re true. And if it’s hereditary like it is in my family, then Lillee does the same. Don’t underestimate how far a pathological liar will go to keep their web of lies intact. If you reveal the truth, they will be forced to face it, and I’m not sure what will happen to her but she’ll definitely crack in some way. Just like I would if my lies were revealed. The only difference is that her lies are very public. So people are calling her on them, and she and her mother are getting violently defensive to protect their lies. If I had to guess what would happen if suddenly she was forced to admit the truth, I believe she would go dark for a while and hide from the world. I believe she would suffer from severe depression during that time, likely unable to face herself and the backlash of her lies. But then one day, she’ll come back online with a new lie that would “justify” the old lie. Something to garner sympathy and make people feel sorry for her. Something along the lines of “I was dealing with (insert some type of abuse) every day and my only outlet was makeup and IRmys and I only ever wanted to be a famous beauty guru so I did everything I could. But my mind was sick from all the abuse and I ended up faking everything etc etc. but now I’m ready to move forward as an adult and be the REAL Lillee Jean! Totally re-invented. Side note, people are making jokes in this comment section about the Truman show... well that’s exactly what it’s like. In order to keep up these huge lies, pathological liars have to LIVE those lies. Act as if someone is always watching them. Never let their guard down. She probably has convinced herself she’s a famous beauty guru and lives that lie as though people are watching. I’d like to say, I’m at a place in my life where I can admit what I am and what I’ve done as far as the lies go. (Admit it to myself, that is). I am actively working towards not ever telling another lie again. The one major lie I’ve told, would ruin my life if the truth was found out and it’s quite stressful. I recognize the situation I’ve created for myself. Please don’t judge me or be mean. Ironically, This is the most honest IRmys comment I’ve ever posted.
